The Spanko Fairy
by zprymantis@smilingwithteeth.com
There is a distant rumble from deep within the house, as the heat
begins to rise into the little girl's bedroom. She sits on the
edge of the bed, with her bare feet propped near the grate. Her
heart hurts as the voices of her parents arguing travel up through
the duct. Her feet start to burn but she is determined to keep
them near the grate. There is something comforting in feeling
the pain on the outside, instead of on the inside, When her feet
are bright red and pulsating, she lies on her bed and cries face
down into her pillow.
It enters her room, a fairy with a gift to give. The crying of
a small child calls to the soul and brings her tapping gently
at the little girl's shoulder. The four-year-old girl turns over,
and stops crying, and stares up into the eyes of the fairy, but
she only sees the ceiling of her room.
The fairy speaks to her, and watches as silent murmurs enter the
child's thoughts. A mature look of determination and resolve appear
on the little girl's face, and she nods and folds her arms around
herself with a comforting hug. She has been given a gift. Her
security will be found from within, through her fantasies and
dreams. Another gift is bestowed upon the little girl along with
the Spanko Blessing; she is given the gift of memory. "Never forget
how it feels." With a kiss to her forehead the fairy departs,
knowing the little girl will be safe.
The little boy hates the silence when his parents leave him alone.
The usually bright and cheerful apartment seems scary when he
is by himself without the sounds of his mother walking through
the house or his father's deep rumbling voice. He is just five
years old, but already knows that he must be brave and comfort
his mother when she cries. His older brother is sick, and it is
his job to be good and not make worries for his family. If he
has a problem, he knows he can go next door, but he doesn't want
to make his parents feel sad for him. He wants to protect everyone
from hurt. He turns on the TV and stares at the flickering images
and starts to cry.
It enters the room, a fairy with a gift to give. The crying of
a small child has called her here, and she looks into his eyes.
He stares through her at the TV and watches the same channel hundreds
of other children might be watching, but he sees the spanking
in the cartoon and a small smile crosses his lips and his tears
stop. His spanking fantasies will provide him with distractions
and humorous filters for the pain life sometimes brings. Another
gift is bestowed upon this little boy; music will fill his ears
and mind to keep the silence away. With a quick poke to his ticklish
spot, the fairy floats away. She knows this one will be ok.
A little girl sobs into her pillow. The third foster home in a
year has left her wondering why she isn't loved. She has a mommy
who makes her feel like a toy doll, sometimes loved, sometimes
tossed aside. She thinks about the bad things she has done that
day, and blames herself for not being good enough to deserve parental
love.
It enters the room, a fairy with a gift to give. She is called
to visit children who are too young to find comfort in friendships,
but too old to find relief in childish amnesia. As the little
girl starts to fall asleep, the fairy gives her a dream of a daddy's
deep voice and his strict caring manner. He will punish her for
her faults and give her exact rules to follow so she will know
precisely when she fails. Her dream daddy will love her no matter
how naughty she is, as he knows little girls have accidents. This
little girl is presented with another gift, a charismatic charm.
She'll have a mask to wear when meeting people, to keep the vulnerable
little girl safely hidden from their view. The fairy moves the
girl's hand near her mouth, where a thumb finds it's resting place.
The Spanko Fairy departs with the knowledge that dreams will help
this one endure.
A little boy misses his mommy; she has been dead for a year. He
worries he will forget her, not just her face, but also her smell
and her voice. He sobs into his pillow, waiting for the painful
grief to overtake him so he can be with her again.
It enters the room, a fairy with a gift to give. She knows that
five years old is too young to have such sorrow. She whispers
a mother's breath across his cheek. He hugs his teddy bear and
curls into a ball. She gives him a gift, and he creates a mommy
angered that her son is giving up his life. She punishes him for
his naughtiness then holds him tight and cries with him. The spanking
thoughts bring comfort to the child. The fairy has one more gift
to give him, an insight into human nature that will help him find
love among the many who will be drawn to his beautiful words.
It is rumored that among the many Spankos that live in the shade
of a mountain blushing red that there are Special Ones who have
a gift. They bring to their community a special wisdom and joy.
For them, this gift was their survival and their story burns brightly
in their hearts.
